Decade for a Culture of Peace

This is the first year in the United Nations Decade for A Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World.

And a Decade to Overcome Violence has been declared by the World Council of Churches to run concurrently.

But the emphasis is primarily on “overcoming” rather than “violence”.

The National Council of Churches of Australia's gender commission and the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council will host a one-day seminar next month on Building a Culture of Peace.

Included on the agenda are faith traditions’ perspectives on a culture of peace, identifying key issues in Australia, examples of action by the Churches and theological responses to the day.

It will be held at St Mark’s Parish Hall, Drummoyne, on Saturday, November 17.

For more information, please call the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council on 9956 5811.
