Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and Reconciliation

Today, Sunday, May 27, marks the beginnings of the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation.

Although the two weeks often overlap, this year sees the two coincide exactly, as did the celebration of Easter for both Western and Eastern Christian traditions.

Romania’s Ecumenical group of Christians were responsible for preparation of material for ecumenical services during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

They chose John 14:6 as the verse for reflection, prayer and action: “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except by me.”

The passage has special relevance for post-communist Romania, with its widespread poverty, crime and homelessness.
