New director for CCI

Catholic Church Insurances has a new director, Norman Griffiths. Mr Griffiths (BE (Civil), MIE Aust, AAR ) will fill the director’s spot left vacant with the retirement from the CCI board of Bishop Kevin Manning last November.

Chairman of Catholic Church Insurances, Mr Bill D’Apice, who announced the appointment, said Mr Griffiths’ appointment was very welcome in view of the recent upheavals in the insurance industry, as his experience would reinforce the financial stability and security of CCI.

Mr Griffiths’ broad experience includes both insurance and reinsurance and will complement other directors’ expertise, said Mr d’Apice.

In addition, Mr Griffiths also has an understanding of CCI and its unique position within the Church, added Mr d’Apice, who stressed the new appointment would reinforce the CCI board’s commitment to strong, prudential management of the company and service of the Catholic Church community.

Mr Griffiths was employed by the Munich Reinsurance Company of Australasia Limited from 1972 until his retirement in March 2001. He was promoted to regional manager for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia in 1983, a position he held until his retirement. The company is one of

the largest reinsurance companies in the world.

Mr Griffiths has also worked in private business and as an army civil engineer.
