40th birthday for PALMS

Australia’s new Governor General, Dr Peter Hollingworth, and Mrs Hollingworth will be the guests of honour at a dinner to celebrate the 40th anniversary of PALMS next Saturday, July 14.

Founded in July 1961, PALMS grew out of the Paulian Association and was the first lay missionary recruitment agency of the Australian Church.

Since its founding, more than 1,200 men, women, children and families have travelled to 36 countries spending up to three years working for communities on a voluntary basis.

PALMS celebrations have a special resonance in this International Year of the Volunteer so PALMS are keen to have a big turnout from Sydney Catholics to help them celebrate.

The dinner will be held at St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill; inquiries may be made on 9642 0558.
